Reduced Oxygen Breathing Device (ROBD)
The Environics® Series Reduced Oxygen Breathing Device simulates altitude exposure and can be utilized for both research and training purposes. The U. S. military and allies around the world use the ROBD to train aircrew to recognize the signs and symptoms of hypoxia and to perform the appropriate emergency procedures and additionally, conducts hypoxia research.
The ROBD2 utilizes a smaller display and softkey user interface, and can also be controlled remotely from a computer (not included). The ROBD3 is a custom-unit and must be controlled entirely from a larger touch screen, which not only simplifies programming, but also allows additional testing details to be displayed.
The other main difference between these two models is the oxygen sensor. While the ROBD2 sensor must be replaced approximately every 2 years, the ROBD3 sensor needs replacing approximately every 5-7 years, possibly longer.
NOW AVAILABLE! In addition to hypoxia training, the ROBD "Hot Key" feature allows you to simulate a failure in back up emergency oxygen. This is available for all existing and new ROBD. Contact us today for more information!
Key Features of both Models Include:
- A new pulse oximeter with touch screen interface
- Enter one flow rate for all altitudes between 40 and 80 LPM
- Breathing bag is replaced with an internal reservoir, generating a faster refresh rate to the mask.
- Addition of an inline Oxygen filter.
- Pulse ox probe connection moved to the rear of the chassis
- HRT is the only program type.

The Environics® Series Reduced Oxygen Breathing Device 2 (ROBD2) simulates altitude exposure and can be utilized for both research and hypoxia training.
The U. S. Military currently uses the ROBD2 to train aircrew to recognize the signs and symptoms of hypoxia and to perform the appropriate emergency procedures and additionally, conducts hypoxia research.
In addition to hypoxia training, the ROBD "Hot Key" feature allows simulation of a failure in back up emergency oxygen.
ROBD2The Environics® Series Reduced Oxygen Breathing Device 3 (ROBD3) is the newest in our line of systems that simulate altitude exposure and can be utilized for both research and hypoxia training. It is customizable for expanded research capabilities, including the addition of CO2. A large touch screen UI makes for simplified operation and on screen viewing during and after training.
ROBD3The ROBD Simulator Accessory Package will simplify the set-up of the ROBD into your flight training/simulating program. The accessory package was designed to guarantee proper integration of all components with the ROBD2 or ROBD3 system (full list of included components below). Step by step instructions are provided for connecting the power, audio and video sources, for the SUT, the instructor monitoring the test and additional personnel who wish to observe.
ROBD Simulator Accessory PackageCOMING SOON!
